Lots of effort in this game, about even on both sides. That's encouraging for the Flames, as vs. the Kings, that should mean a win based on the better talent.
But this LA team will be damn good, and the foundations being laid right now will pay huge dividends by even next year. The D is playing quite well, and this is even without Jack Johnson. Doughty, Johnson, Hickey... throw in a good young D like Quincey, Harrold, and a rejuvenated Matt Greene... what a fantastic core they're building.
Lombardi made some errors in the past, but once those initial mistakes are taken care of (mainly due to Crawford) this team is prepared for an upswing.
And Labarbera looks quite good right now. Hope he stays healthy, he deserves another contract. There's a much better crop of goalies that are UFA eligible this year, although that group will drop obviously by the deadline and July 1. Backstrom's the real gem, but given the age of some of the other UFA goalies, a good year by Labarbera could make him some good coin. It's hard to believe this is already his 4th year in the Kings system.
