That's...a lot of players.

Not a whole lot of term thrown out with the exception of Compher. What's your read on him, Av?

No clear superstar center available so it'll be committee with Larkin, Copp and Compher. Veleno at 4 can just skate everyone into the ice, hopefully. We will see what Kaspar brings this year!

Compher, Klostin trade, Sprong, Fischer, Ghost, Holl, Reimer, Lyon. Just money, hopefully deal for some picks at the end of the season.

Zadina on waivers, contract might be terminated. That escalated quickly!

JTC is a pretty good utility guy. He’s not great at one thing, just decent at a lot of things. Took him a LONG time to become the 3rd line center the Avs envisioned him as but he finally took those strides last year (I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the next step in his development as a third liner and reliable penalty killer happened after Darren Helm arrived in Denver).

Good wheels, okay hands, can play a good scrappy defensive game and can create some breakaway chances on the PK. His offense is frustratingly inconsistent but he can play virtually anywhere in the lineup in a pinch. I think $5 million is a bit much for him but that was likely market value after putting up career numbers.

You’ll love him when he’s battling for pucks and leaving it all out there on the ice. When he’s lost his confidence and floating around unsure where to go you’re going to want to hurl large objects at him.

It’s a shame he will now only play one game in his native Chicago because he fucking owns the Hawks whenever he’s there.

It stings, but the Zadina pick was viewed as a slam dunk pick when the Wings fell to him. Really unfortunate that it hasn't worked out :x :x

Not that I thought Zadina was gonna bust but at the time I did think passing “hometown” boy Hughes in favor of him was a mistake. If nothing else, wingers are far easier to find than defensemen.

Oh well, Yzerman has proven he’s a damn good GM but I have to say I’m finding his approach in Detroit so far a bit curious.

Interesting that Zadina passed up a few million by mutually terminating his contract. Betting on himself to find a spot elsewhere.

The Wings land a pretty big fish in DeBrincat, coming off of a down year in Ottawa. They got by far the best player in the trade(conditional 1st rounder pending) which is good, and got him signed to a really reasonable salary for 4 years and only 25 years old.

I wouldn't call it highway robbery but that's a very favorable deal for the Wings. That should give them the scoring depth Zadina failed to deliver.

A shame the Cat stays with an Eastern team, he and Girard had a bit of a beef during the former's time with the Hawks. Sammy is obviously not a big guy but when he encounters players his size, he turns into Radko Gudas. It all started with a late hit by G that sent DeBrincat sliding into the boards in pretty dangerous fashion and escalated from there.

So many new faces in Detroit! How are they gonna all gel together?

Also, does that mean RFA Veleno is the 4C, or are they shopping him?

Hughes sends Petry home:

To Habs:
Gustav Lindström
conditional 2025 4th round pick*

To Detroit:
Jeff Petry (50% retained: $2,343,750)

*MTL receives the later of Detroit or Boston's 2025 4th round picks

Nice work for both sides. Wings get a solid RHD at 66 per cent off. Habs get a lottery ticket on defence.

Wings sign F Cam Hillis to a PTO. He unexpectedly got a game in for Montreal when everyone was out with COVID, and I suspect he'll never play another game in the NHL.

They've got a lot of forwards already, but some people are connecting the dots that Kane may want to reunite with Debrincat in Detroit.
