What's Tulo like? Good dude?

Nice job, Phillies

Saw a triple play at the Jays game last night! Really fun game to watch live. Stroman settled in after some balls found holes in the first inning. The kid is really fun to watch pitch. He struck out and guy and looked like he was thinking "Get in the fucking box so I can K you too". Then after another one, they showed him on the jumbotron yelling "Fuck yeah!" after another big k. He had Yadier Molina completely fooled on a couple of pitches.

Jays got tons of guys on base, which has lead to some huge innings this season. Nothing came of them, but they still hit a couple of dingers to put up 3 runs. They were working walks like crazy.

By all accounts he's a pretty classy guy. He deserves better than the shitbird organization he currently plays for.

Of course its the Rockies with an injury like this.

http://www.sbnation.com/2014/6/11/58016 ... ry-what-ew

Didn't they have some other ridiculous injuries besides Barmes carrying deer meat?

I know Sakic had the lawn mower incident. Colorado thing?

I think so, yes.

Another reason the Avs should sign Dustin Penner.

Sad, sad news. One of the best hitters the game has ever seen. He singlehandedly made the Padres relevant during his time in SD. Also a class act.

One of the best things I've read on Deadspin:

http://deadspin.com/i-was-tony-gwynns-b ... socialflow

We really lost a class act with Tony Gwynn. At a time when most of my "heroes" are getting exposed as crass jackasses, it's good to know that at least one of these guys was actually worthy of all the adoration he received.

Great read. Sounds like a guy who was loved by just about everyone.

Kershaw is ridiculous. 15k, 9 ground balls and 3 fly balls. An error by Ramirez prevents the perfect game.

Looks like this is the 2nd-highest game score ever behind Kerry Wood. It also broke FIP.

I’m fairly new to this… but FIP is supposed to “Mimic” ERA while providing a better evaluation that is context-neutral, correct?

So how exactly does one have a negative FIP?

Models designed to work in normal environments break at extremes. It’s pretty common, not just with baseball modeling, but with basically any model you create. You set parameters that mimic real life, and then when something insane happens, your model says “haha what” and falls apart.

Adrian Beltre gets his 2500th career hit, and is congratulated by Miguel Cabrera. Beltre is legendary for hating having his head touched.

Barry Bonds turns 50 today. Here's a list of reasons why he was the greatest player in baseball history.

Bonds did it on a strict regimen of PEDs. Babe Ruth did it on little more than fatty foods and copious amounts of booze.

By the way, Ruth is still the only hitter in baseball history who could've gotten into the HOF on his pitching alone.

Even without the PEDs, Bonds is in the conversation.

Also, to be fair with Babe Ruth, all his opponents were also on fatty foods, booze, and tons of tobacco as well. And, of course, Bonds' opponents were heavy on the PEDs as well.

The Bonds story is that he was jealous of the attention McGuire/Sosa got so that's why he turned into a jucier/long ball hitter. He thought he wasn't getting the respect he deserved for his all-around play and just gave in to what people wanted.
