Heatley gets 2 games for a blatant elbow to Ott, although some people are saying he fanned on it and got him in the chest and Ott embellished big time. After the game Ott told reporters the lights were hurting his head. Intent was clearly there, I still have the game recorded, I might take another look to see where he hit him but regardless dumb play by Heatley.

Here is the vid but it is hard to tell where he hit him:

Too bad for the Sharks, a month ago I would have said this was a positive but Heatley has been scoring lately after floating all season.

Wow, he REALLY had to reach to clip him there. That one's worse to me than even Domi's elbow on Nieds. What a fucking moron.

I think Domi's was still worse. Talk about your all time stupid elbows...

Yeah, the two cameras were pretty far away so it's tough to see how hard he got him in that replay. It was a completely dumb thing to do though for sure.

This is the tip of the iceberg. Not the elbow or possible concussion, but the embellishment. With so much attention on head injuries these days, I think there's a very high probability of a rise in embellishment here. As we have seen in the tightening of calls regarding minor penalties like hooking, tripping, slashing, etc., there's been a rise in 'diving'.

I think a natural outcome of the present sensitivity of the league for head injuries is that players will begin to embellish possible injuries just to get a call. I have to wonder if this is one fo the reasons why the GMs have been reluctant to put stronger penalties in place to get rid of head shots. The likelihood of unintended consequences is just too high.

Whoa, just saw this stat - in his last 100 games including playoffs Heatley has 29 goals. He is such a fing floater most nights I guess I shouldn't be surprised by that. Oh well, only 3 more years left at $7.5m on a team with significant cap issues!

Good point CL. I guess that could make a case for bigger punishment for bigger injuries regardless of intent which is hard to determine anyway.

Of course, they'll be away from the game for 15 minutes if they appear to have a head injury...

Will that be part of the rule? If so, then that may offset some embellishment; there ought to be something in there for when an apparent head injury happens within 5 minutes of the end of a period though.
