Sorry...couldn't go through with "Grabner in the Pussy." RANGERS LINEUP Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich Nash - Chytil - Zuccarello Grabner - Hayes - Miller Vesey - Desharnais - Carey McDonagh - Shattenkirk Skjei - Smith Staal - DeAngelo Lundqvist Pavelec AVALANCHE LINEUP Andrighetto - MacKinnon - Rantanen Kerfoot - Duchene - Yakupov Landeskog - Compher - Wilson Nieto - Jost - Comeau Zadorov - Johnson Nemeth - Barrie Bigras - Mironov Varlamov Bernier Okay...well. That's it then. Hockey has begun anew. I told myself this year I wasn't going to let whatever failings of my favorite team make me miss out on enjoying good hockey, no matter what city it comes from or what uniform it wears. I intend to stick to that promise. Come what may. First time in well over a decade (I think) I am entering an NHL season with no fantasy team to speak of. Had as many as three at one point. But I'm okay with a year off, maybe more. |

Neither team looked especially great last night, in the end it was Varlamov who won the duel of the goaltenders. That said, factoring in score effects the match was far more even than the shot totals would lead you to believe. Matty Duchene with the first Avs goal of the season. Fitting. Alex Kerfoot gets his first NHL point with a great cross-ice pass to Tyson Barrie on the rush, who put it home for the game-winner. Mika Zibanejad doesn't look out of place at all as the Rangers' newly-appointed top line center. He scored both of NY's goals, both on the man-advantage. The only real goats on the Avs' side were Matt Nieto with three dumb penalties and Andrei Mironov, who looked completely lost all game. Lastly, Nolan Pratt and Jared Bednar had damn well better put together a better defensive scheme than the passive box bullshit we watched last night. If they wanted to continue to see them sit back and block shots they should've just kept Dave Farrish as an assistant. Patrik Nemeth and Tyson Barrie looked surprisingly good last night. |
