Isles were officially, mathematically eliminated from the playoffs last week.

Awesome.

We got officially eliminated in grand fashion--a 7-2 loss to the Dux at home.

Know what's funny? Even though only 5 of 21 teams used to miss the playoffs, I'm pretty sure the mathematical eliminations tended to happen a little earlier, if only because each division had a poor sister. I mean, the Nordiques were generally out by the All-Star break...

It would be funny if it was the Rangers who were eliminated already.

On an ironic note: The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (Isles AHL affiliate) have made the playoffs, and could win their division. Odd when you consider how many players they lost to the big club this year. Sounds like it bodes well for the future, but it's the Islanders. They'll trade them, let them walk, they'll get injured...
