He's thinking of coming back for the 2016-17 season, because his KHL contract ain't worth much anymore.

But not so fast: he signed his retirement papers, so he needs to be let back in.

Kovalchuk sent home by SKA. Permanent or just temporary?

The Leafs just traded him for 4 draft picks. NJ hasn't figured out yet that the Leafs didn't own his rights.

Could Kovalchuk's next stop be... China?

It's kind of a shame--we just never really got to see what Kovalchuk and Heatley could've done together on a real team in their respective primes.

Friedman reports Ilya Kovalchuk does indeed want to come back to the NHL. The Devils still have his rights, but could set up a sign and trade or trade his rights.

Will Kovalchuk and Radulov look for a place to land together?

Kovalchuk basically strong-armed by Putin into staying in Russia for 2017-2018 so he can play in the Olympics.

Says he'll come after, but his back may not hold up long enough.
