Moreau-Horcoff-Pisani

Back in 2006 this line would be a dominant shutdown line. What a difference 4 years makes, eh?

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/sports/O ... story.html

Quote:
"We were passive on the ice, passive in the net ... we didn't compete. We had three or four forwards (Gilbert Brule, Dustin Penner, who scored the Oilers lone goal, and Ryan Potulny) going and our checking line (Ethan Moreau, Shawn Horcoff, Fernando Pisani) wasn't in the game," sighed Quinn.

"As long as we're that easy to beat, we'll be looking at ugly scores like this one."

They haven't won a road game in two months, and they have three wins in their last 26 games overall, going back to a Dec. 11 victory against the Blues in St. Louis. They have been outscored 13-3 in the first three games of a five-game road trip.

In this one, Quinn sent out Moreau, Horcoff and Pisani to shadow the Coyotes' top line and they were schooled by Lombardi, captain Shane Doan and centre Robert Lang. Moreau was minus-4, Pisani and Horcoff (now minus-31 on the season) were minus-3, and Lombardi danced around them as if he was Sidney Crosby.

Yeah, yeah, I know, it's plus/minus so take it for what it's worth but...seriously, a combined minus 57!? You have to be tanking on purpose if you're rolling out a "checking" line like that.

15 goals and 16 assists in a total of 129 games...all for a measly cap hit of $10 million. That's some awesome cap efficiency.

Forget worst line, how about worst defensive corps? In fact, worse than the Swiss had!

http://www.behindthenethockey.com/2010/ ... worse-than

That's awesome! I made fun of Edmonton's terrible D corps a day earlier when their game was on vs. Nashville... when they had just traded Grebeshkov but still had Visnovsky. Then they traded Lubo and didn't have Whitney arrive in time. Neither could Aaron Johnson, recently traded for Steve Staois. Top pair of Gilbert-Strudwick! Awesome!

Quote:
Bottom line: the Edmonton Oilers managed to put together, for one game at least, one of the weakest defensive corps imaginable. With Jonas Hiller in goal and a slight edge on defense, I'd imagine that Team Switzerland could beat last night's Oilers 60-70% of the time.

Underdogs to the Swiss. That's Oilers hockey in 2010!

Yeah I didn't understand why they made that trade a couple of days before the deadline...Trade a roster player to the team you're playing against immediately after the trade, even though you have a couple of days to make the trade?

Guess that might explain some things in Edmonton, anyways...
