There's a lot of reverse mojo happening today.

With Ryan O'Reilly's 2 goals last night we now have 3 of the top 10 (Duchene, Galiardi, O'Reilly) in scoring amongst rookies and 4 (Yip) in the top 20.

What happened to O'Reillys production,He was on fire at the beginning of the year and now he has like 3 points in his last 25 games? The last game was the only time I have regretted dropping him from my fantasy roster.

Duchene's emergence and injuries more than anything else. O'Reilly had plum linemates like Wolski and Stewart earlier this season, whereas Duchene was struggling to find his scoring touch and so had a rotating cast of wingers. Once he found his stride though Hejduk and Jones were both lost and so O'Reilly's been stuck with Cody McLeod on one side and Darcy Tucker on the other. Both Stastny and Duchene have the best scorers, leaving nothing for him. Nevertheless O'Reilly is doing all the things that won't show up on a scoresheet, him and T.J. Galiardi are the team's best defensive forwards and penalty killers. Since neither is really all that good defensively (and right now not that good offensively either) O'Reilly is too busy playing defense to really set up plays or go to the net.

Next season, assuming the Avs front office doesn't do anything stupid, we should have a healthy David Jones and Milan Hejduk which should bump Galiardi and Brandon Yip down to what should be an absolutely awesome third line that will score plenty. But for now, O'Reilly is stuck with a couple 4th line guys on his wings.

New line combos...

Galiardi-Stastny-Stewart
Wolski-Duchene-Yip
McLeod-O'Reilly-Svatos

Salei is getting better, meaning we'll have 8 defensemen on the roster soon. Seriously...DO something.

Nice article on (arguably) the biggest surprise of a surprising season, Brandon Yip.

Oh fucking great. We have had only six players play in every single game so far this season. Make that five...Ryan O'Reilly will sit out tonight's game against the Blooz with a bruised foot.

http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_14358415

Ruslan Salei, who has officially been cleared to play, is a healthy scratch, as is John-Michael Liles. I wish the front office would get to trimming the fat already...

Some bad news: I haven't seen any official statement on it, but it sounds like KSE will not lower season ticket prices for next year after raising them the last few years. Seems ridiculous to me for any business model to be raising the price on a product that has degraded noticeably in quality. Even with an unexpected rebound shouldn't have these guys thinking the fans will come flocking back. And I agree with what Adrian Dater has been harping on for years now--that the Avs marketing team is about the most inept in all of professional sports and has been for years. The Avs management has done a complete overhaul of its front office and on-ice personnel...it's high time they did the same in other areas. The attendance issue will not resolve itself this season and will be an issue next season if they continue to overcharge customers during an economic downturn.

Dater praises the culture of accountability Sacco has instilled in the Avs locker room.

http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_14370005

I'll refrain from my usual blasting of Tony Granato and say in his defense than while he was way too nice-guy to be an effective head coach (one of his MANY flaws) given the slew of injuries that befell the team last season, I don't know what else he could have done with "Trailor" Arnason. That was more Giguere's fuck-up for re-signing him in the first place.

Milan Hejduk, I’m told, is feeling great and plans to definitely be back by the March 1 resumption date against Detroit at the Pepsi Center. Matt Hendricks could well be back, too, which would give a huge boost to the fourth line.

I'm hoping the Avs at least divest themselves of Svatos and Salei for decent returns.

Liles might stay though...especially since Cumiskey still appears to be suffering the effects of a concussion.

MARTIN FUCKING HANZAL. That's all I got to say about that.

Brandon Yip out 4-6 weeks. Bum shoulder suffered in the loss to the Wings.

Fucking motherfucking shit. Right before the deadline. Great fucking timing.

Ryan Stoa, who has just recently recovered from his own shoulder injury, is called up.

Per Dater, Mueller will indeed be in Anaheim tonight to play for the Avs, meaning he is scheduled to play three games in three nights.

Salei hurt again, out indefinitely with a "torso injury".

Grand total of 6 games on the season. Should've traded him when you had the chance...

Captain Awesome, Matt Hendricks (who has likely earned himself a new contract with the team this offseason) answers fan mail.

Wilson with his 2nd concussion of the year, only a few scant weeks after his 1st.

Times like this, and ONLY times like this, I miss David Koci.

In some other rather odd and disturbing news, former Avs goalie Vitaly Kolesnik was attacked by a fan during a KHL game.
