Bob Hartley has made a lot of enemies over the years. There's a reason for that. He's essentially the Esa Tikkanen of coaches.

His exchanges in the press with Andy Murray when he was with the Avs and Murray was with the Kings were hilarious.

Excellent read

I should also point out that Tortorella has also had his fair share of feuds. I still remember him yelling about something Hitchcock did or said, to which Hitch said to shut his mouth.

Camalleri and Stempniak are both in the running for worst f'n guy in the league at a -20 (trailing only Mike Weber, Sam Gagner and Yakupov). With Matt Stajan hot on their heels (-18). Smid has brought over his already awesome defensive prowess from Edmonton at a -16. Dennis Wideman has been quietly terrible in his return as well but he's had points in the past couple of games -13 in 32 games.

Huge props to Kris Russell and Jiri Hudler for being a plus 1 over 30 games on this team......... (I suppose both of them being on the bench during the implosion helps)

I do not like Joe Colbourne. Him and Burke can catch the love train back to Toronto! And don't forget to take Stajan with you!

Hartley is screwed and he'll be fired for someone Burke wants. Don Cherry maybe or some other dinosaur (I am available). He might as well update his resume.

Sven Baertschi lacks bellicosity!

Dude, plus/minus is HUGELY misleading on a team whose goaltending consists of a career NHL backup and a guy who should probably be a career backup in the AHL. Stajan actually has a pretty good relative corsi rating (which means that the team puts more shots on the opposing net when he's on the ice) all things considered, and he draws some fairly stiff competion. Though not the toughest, which is surprising (I think Backlund has actually been used as Calgary's shutdown guy).

Well, Matt Stajan will be part of the rebuild.

Signs a 4-year, $12.5 million extension. His previous contract (the infamous Sutter one) was 4 years, $14 million.

His AAV next year will be $3.125, so he's taking a modest paycut. He's currently making $2.5 million but his AAV was $3.5 mil.

Whatever, not a bad deal for a not-bad player.

Moved as the board was crashing when I tried to use the proper tools.

I don't know what Corsi is. I can look at +/-, Minutes and watch the game. When you are a minus guy at the top of the league it means either you are shitty or you are on a shitty team. Its always been that way.

I don't really need some fancy TSN over analysis to find the buried gems in the pile.

I don't know why corsi is so confusing to people. It measures shots your team takes vs. shots your team gives up. It simply takes the goalie out of the equation. Plus/minus is way too dependent on the guy between the pipes. I think it has a context like any stat but it's terribly misleading in a lot of aspects. Semyon Varlamov has made a lot of mediocre-to-bad defensemen look very good in Colorado, while Reto Berra has made some halfway decent players (like Stajan) look terrible. Plus, it's natural for a team to play worse when they have to look over their shoulder all the time and wonder if the goalie is going to make a save or not.

I didn't say it was confusing. I have never bothered to consider it.

When is the NHL or TSN going to add this to their Stats page?

Shane O'Brien sent to Abbotsford, 6'7", 224-lb Chris Breen called up.

Apparently Wideman-O'Brien was the pairing that was on the ice for all four goals of the Eric Nystrom show. Won't be surprised if Wideman is a compliance buyout this summer.

Huh. I guess Mikael Granlund's little brother Markus has done pretty well for himself in Abbotsford and will draw in tonight on a line with Colborne and Monahan.

And the Flames fall to my least favorite matchup to watch Kings Vs Flames.....I can't stand the announcers and it reminds me of not being able to watch any hockey other than the last game of the night which was usually Kings/Flames or anything Kings. I strongly dislike this matchup! You know its bad when McGrattan is carrying the scoring torch!

And the award for the most unlikely 2-game goal scoring streak goes to...

There was an offensive explosion last night against the Ducks. Somehow the Flames manage to score 7 goals and 4 in the 1st (admittedly I checked out after that). Quietly Backlund may be turning into that guy he is supposed to be. Even Smid got in on the action.

There was also some wildness with a ref throwing Corban Knight's first goal puck into the stands. This apparently irritated some media types who have nothing better to do than tear apart everything. Fortunately Backlund was able to rescue the day again and trade his stick to some little girl for Knight's 1st goal puck which in turn created a twitter circle jerk.

Who knows what was going on in the Ducks dressing room?

While Stajan is not my favorite player no parent should have to go through a death of their child.

My condolences to him and his family

Windshield Bob gets praised by George Johnson for this late-season run.

Kinda sad that Calgary's rebuild is less than a year old and it currently looks better than the maybe-seven year rebuild the Oilers have been on.

He doesn't usually sign those guys. He trades a 2nd rounder for them.
