Given their cap situation, I can understand the Flames' wanting to go to arb, but that seems like a big risk.

The money shouldn't be a problem, but Sutter should demand a clause that states White can't shave or even trim his 'stache during the season.

According to the NHLPA, defenceman Ian White and the Calgary Flames have come to terms on a one-year, $2,999,995 contract.

Sutter: There's no way we're paying you $3m.

 Seriously. Is there some CBA-based reason why they would want to settle slightly short?

Can't think of any. Maybe the Flames caught White getting a free 'Dome burger, and it's payback time.
