Unfortunately, the East is so congested, a few wins would put the Bruins right back into the mix
We both know the team doesn't have the bullets to compete in the playoffs if they make it ... even with Kovalchuk
I kind of doubt Chiarelli would be willing to risk his position with a calculated tank job
Especially after last years run ... though it's clear they're taking a few steps back whether he likes it or not
Granted, tonight was the first game in a long, long time that I didn't fall asleep upright while trying to watch
They certainly put in a game effort, and Wheeler especially has been playing like a guy who's contract is up ...
oh wait, it is! Where was that effort earlier in the season?
There's no "classy" way to suggest the unthinkable, that they deliberately tank it ... but they should

Who should go?

Well, if they're not going to make it this year, they should really try to find a market for Thomas
Lets face it, if they were contenders having 2 good goalies would be ideal
In their current state, Thomas's contract is a roadblock ... Rask is obviously their man of the future, and the sooner the better
Sturm has been one of their best players all season in proving me wrong in one aspect (I said Sturm couldn't replace Kessel's goals)
In the last year of his deal, are they really gonna resign him? If not, they might do well to deal him to a contender for a pick or prospect
Ryder seems like an obvious choice to go, under-performing on his contract
However, I think the return on Ryder would be minimal, and they can't get rid of everyone ... it might be better to hang onto Ryder
for one more season (he seems to have good seasons every other year) get a good year out of him, then deal him next off season, at peak
Wheeler is a RFA, and his price demands will determine if he returns ... he has been playing possessed lately, but where was that
effort in the first part of the season? mmm-hmmm.....
I think Mark Stuart is a "must" re-sign, depending of course on his contract requirements ... I really can't see them not getting it done
If they could find any takers for Wideman and his ridiculous contract, I'd pull the trigger.... even if the return is a 3rd round pick
He has skill, but clearly his decision making is suspect, as is his confidence ... they could use the money to re-sign Derek Morris.
Lucic is obviously here to stay, not a GM in the league would touch that retarded contract
There's been a lot of talk of dangling Bergeron as trade bait... absolute insanity! Bergeron has been their best player this year
He's still very young, and even though he's basically skating on the 3rd line, what do you expect when your 3 best players are centers?
I think he is finally coming back to where he was before the head injuries ... 4-5 mil for a 3rd line center seems a lot, but he is also a
powerplay QB, and the best 2-way center on the team ... he is reminding me of Ron Francis more and more

Ryder is a fucking anchor, deal him WITH a pick to get rid of him...

Sturm see ya, hurt too often to make his 25 goals a year - in a healthy year - worth it...

Wideman probably needs a change of scenery... Eklund says the B's are hot for Cogliano... one for one swap sounds good to me... throw in Ryder for all I care lol...

Honestly I am a lot more forgiving with this team. Chiarelli is fairly new and hasn't had an opportunity to deal with his mistakes yet.

A lot of big ticket players had off years so far. I am willing to give them all 1 more season....yes Wideman, Thomas and Lucic.

I don't think its bad that Thomas has competition from Rask in Goal. Carrying two is ok by me if only Thomas was getting paid less. 6 Mil is an awful lot to pay for a 35 yr old goaltender who is getting muscled out of playing time. I highly doubt he is movable at his age and price.

Wideman.....maybe his good year was bullshit. But I am willing to bet it wasn't. Hopefully he regains form next year. Letting Morris go would be good for Wideman's ego and necessary IMO.

Lucic....in terms of contribution this is the worst contract on the team this year. Yeah...he's been hurt and I certainly would have signed him LT as well...but damn at some point these GMs are going to have to stagger these contracts to provide incentive. Like a base salary of 1.5 to 2 Mil and then incentives. I think all contracts should be fixed and then made larger based on performance. To me its common sense, when you hand someone the brass ring they become indifferent. But that's a tangent of mine......You can't give up on Lucic.

Sturm needs to go....16 goals for 3.5? Sounds like Olli Jokkinen but wait it gets better....Michael Ryder 12 goals for 4 Million. These guys need to go....I am sure we can find a 20 goal scorer for 7.5 million.

But doesn't everyone want to get rid of 4 Mil contracts for 12 goal scorers? Car wreck of a league. Paul Kariya anyone?

I'll repeat myself. Chiarelli should be allowed some more rope. If he can find a taker for Sturm/Ryder or unlikely both that's a bonus. Unless that happens we're stuck with what we have and we are going to have to like it. I would rather see him pull a deal with the picks come draft time as I don't think a trade is going to help this season. That being said the Bruins aren't that far off with a few wins. I am not completely throwing in the towel this year because it could just be a matter of the right move. I just don't see it this year. Hopefully health will treat us better next year.

You can't do incentive-based contracts until a player hits 35.

That's stupid. What incentive does an old man need? Does Tim Thomas have incentive to earn 6 million?

Young people need incentives.

Can't they do something past entry-level contract that includes bonuses though?

According to Bob MacKenzie, Chiarelli has told all the GM's that Ryder is available. Good luck with that one. :haha:

I think it's only if they've played less than a certain amount of games over past seasons because of injuries.

Harmy I will play the Devils advocate here for Sturm ... even though I've said before that he should go
He's been the most consistent player on the team this year by far (when he hasn't been injured)
Yes he only has 16 goals .. which happens to lead the team ... last I checked Kessel only had 15
He also leads them with a +8 +/- rating ... he's clearly not the problem
His 16 goals prorates to about 26 for a full season ... pretty much his average, and what they figured when they signed him
He's one of the few Bruins earning their contracts
Now don't think that means I'm against the team trading him; I'm obviously not
Despite their recent effort, this team is going nowhere, so why not get a pick for Sturm and let him play for a Cup somewhere else?

The thing about letting Morris go to help Wideman ... :emo: boo fuckin hoo
Morris is clearly a better player than Wideman, and close to a mil a year cheaper
If Wideman can't handle the team bringing in players that play the same position as him, then he's in the wrong business

As for Lucic, I believe I was the first to say ... he hasn't done anything to warrant that contract, not this year or last
his performance last year should have merited a "well the fans like you, so we're gonna sweeten our offer to 10 mil over 4 years
starting at 1.5 and ending at 3 mil" and for 15 goals I can't see how his camp would have much to argue about

The reason I came to that conclusion is that Wideman is signed LT. Its easier to let DMo go and deal with a butthurt Wideman.

I don't think Chiarelli is going to be able to do much unless it includes the pick like Razz says. Everyone is looking to unload mistakes.

I like Chiarelli, but when he says shit like this he comes off sounding foolish.

Quote:
"People clamored for me to acquire a certain player and we didn't," he said. "Well, that team that acquired him certainly hasn't taken off since they've gotten him, and there's reasons for that. Reasons that we looked into, also."

I heard that interview, and how Felger and Maz later rehashed it in criticizing Chia. (like hours after the interview)
What the article doesn't say is how they were grilling Chiarelli for not making a trade yet
Felger is a douche ... he's the one who over the summer said that Kessel hadn't improved one bit since he was drafted
Felger is one of the torch bearers for trading away the picks to get player NOW! a moron in other words
Throughout the Kovalchuk drama, Felger ranted repeatedly about how what good are picks if Kovalchuk could bring them
a Stanley Cup this year :wth: :yayyy: Makes me think he hasn't actually watched one game this year
Not to mention that pesky cap thing, that he seems to be oblivious to

though I must admit, 98.5 is one of the preset stations in my car
Like Howard Stern's detractors, I must just really like screaming "Douchebag!" at my radio while driving

First Savard, now Chara is out for tonight's game.

Good thing they're playing the Leafs.

this may be one ugly hockey game to watch...

Chara's finger is gibbled... they should shut him and Savard down for the year and mail it in... give some of the kids a chance... call up Hamill and shock him into realizing how far he is from ready... let Marchand run around and hack a few guys - I recomment Sidney Crosby on the 18th...

I still don't see any of Tampa, Atlanta, Florida or the Rangers doing enough to pass the Bruins for the last playoff spot. If Boston does get in, they may get Savard back. Other than Pittsburgh, there isn't a team in the East that is sure-fire to get out of the first round and that includes the Capitals with Theodore in net.

Harris is wrong ... he's also a douchebag, but that's besides the point

He thinks risking a penalty in a 1 goal game when the other team just crippled your top center is 'too much risk" in the last 5:00

That's why he's a douchebag

So fucking what if you lose the fucking game .... you're going to anyways

Show the fucking fans that your players stick up for one another ... show some balls (which of course they didn't)

Harris thinks risking that 2 points is worse than risking what's left of your fan base? That's why I don't read his columns anymore

ever since he said the Patriots-Giants Super Bowl would "be over at half time", I've considered him as a mentally challenged person

This douche bag needs to be fired ASAP
