so I was all peeved at the IOCC at the beginning and sort of got sucked back in. I'd simply forgotten how may compelling and even uplifting human interest stories arise out of the Olympics. Yes Brazil, the city of Rio de Janerio, Russian doping and the IOCC are all completely screwed up. But the individuals competing to be their best, against sometimes incredible odds will always be greater than all the crap around them.

My favorite story so far has been Abbey D'Agostino (USA) and Nikki Hamblin (NZE) helping each other out to finish the race after colliding.

My least favorite story? Probably this.

Lochte has been the butt of jokes for quite some time here, but if there's any truth to this he's taken his idiocy to an entirely new level.

This is a cardinal sin in swimming circles. This is a non-contact sport so keep your eyes forward! Sneaking a look at the other lane(s) slows you down (because turning your head throws off your stroke and timing - where your head goes, your body follows) and he did this at least three or four times over the last 50 meters. Coaches get incensed when 12 year olds do this at regular meets.
