For the rest of us the WHCs start today with totally awesome morning start times out of Finland and Latvia!

https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2023/wm

Not a lot of NHL buy ins on this.

About the only big horse I see in this tournament is Ranntanen.

Coronato playing for the US......

Milan, Weegar and Toffoli playing for Canada.

I sometimes forget how much I like brewing a pot of Timmy Ho's and watching early morning hockey. Probably one of my favorite things. Enjoying this WHC in the background even though it reaches super soft status.....Got to try and make it a point to watch the Wranglers game tonight!

If this had happened in the NHL, Parros would've had to have been told by Bettman to levy one game.

Canada has had a history of players pulling stunts who would never do this in the NHL for fear of getting their head handed to them. Goes back to Barry Long in the '80s. I guess they think with a one time only tournament play they don't have anything to fear. I wouldn't mind if the NHL upheld the suspension for league play.

A gritty, dominating effort out of Canada returns them to respectability and they finish #2 in Group B.

Well I thought the US Game was over....I guess not. Looks like they are currently in a dog fight with Sweden. OT there. And the US gets it done in OT.

On to the Quarter Finals.

Chris Simon got 30. Chris Pronger, who had probably been suspended more times than Chris Simon, of course only got 8 for his stomp on Kesler.

Host Country Latvia pulls off a stunner against the Swedes to reach the semis for the first time.

CAN/LAT and US/GER on Saturday afternoon.

In an interesting turn of events USA goes unchallenged loses to Germany and then falls to Latvia and doesn't medal at all. Germany seems to be catching up lately...that Moritz Seider is quite the D stallion. Props to the Latvians!

Canada gets their shit together and wins the Gold. Good for Milan!

Canada Gold
Germany Silver
Latvia Bronze
